He washed my eyes with tears that I might see, 

그분께서 내가 (世上을) 볼 수 있도록 내 두 눈을 눈물로 씻겨 주셨네

The broken heart I had was good for me;

 내 ‘깨어진(or 傷處 받은)’ 가슴이 나에게는 (오히려) 잘 된 일이었네

 

He tore it all apart and looked inside, 

그분께서 내 가슴을 갈래갈래 찢으시고 속을 열어 보시고

He found it full of fear and foolish pride. 

두려움과 어리석은 自慢心(자만심)이 가득 차 있다는 것을 아셨네

He swept away the things that made me blind 

그분께서는 내 앞을 가리는 것들을 모두 없애 주셨고

 

And then I saw the clouds were silver lined; 

그래서 나는 구름들이 銀色으로 되어 있다는 것을 보았고

And now I understand 'twas best for me 

그래서 이제 나는 그것이 나에게 가장 잘된 것임을 아네

I saw the blood He spilt upon the sands. 

나는 그분께서 모래 위에 흘리신 寶血을 보았네

I saw the marks of shame and wept and cried; 

나는 (그분 聖體에 나타나 있는) 羞恥(수치)스러운 痕跡(흔적)들을 보고 울며 외쳤네;

He was my substitute, for me He died; 

그분께서는 나를 代身하여 돌아가셨고;

And now I'm glad He came so tenderly; 

이제 그분께서 너무나도 多情히 내게 오셔서 나는 기쁘고;
