子張學干祿。子曰：多聞闕疑，愼言其餘，則寡尤；多見闕殆，慎行其餘，則寡悔；言寡尤，行寡悔，祿在其中矣。

자장학우록. 자왈: 다문궐의, 신언기여, 즉과우; 다문궐태, 신행기여, 즉과회; 언과우, 행과회, 녹재기중의.

子张学干禄，子曰：“多闻阙疑，慎言其余，则寡尤；多见阙殆，慎行其余，则寡悔。言寡尤，行寡悔， 在其中矣。”

 

飜譯 by sjc;

子張이 干祿에 대하여 (孔子께) ‘배우려고 했다(or 배웠다)’ 。子曰：많이 듣고 疑心스러운 部分을 除去한 後，남아 있는 것에 對하여 愼重히 言及한다면 過失이 적게 된다； 많이 보고 危險한 部分을 除去한 後, 남아 있는 것에 對하여 愼重히 行動한다면 後悔가 적게 된다；’적은 過失을 말하고(or 말失手를 적게 하고)’ ‘적은 後悔를 한다면(or 後悔할 行動을 적게 한다면)’，祿俸은 그 안에 있는 것이다.。

 

英譯;

Tzu Chang wished to learn how to acquire the emolument of an official. Confucius said, “Listen extensively and cast aside doubt. As for the rest, speak prudently, and there will be little accusation. Observe extensively and cast aside desolation. As for the rest, act prudently, and there will be little remorse. With little accusation about what is spoken and little remorse about what is done, there is the emolument of an official ”
