論語: 八佾 03-13;

王孫賈問曰。與其媚於奧。寧媚於竈。何謂也。子曰。不然。獲罪於天。無所禱也。

왕손가문왈. 여기미어오. 영미어조. 하위냐. 자왈. 불연. 획죄어천. 무소도야.

王孙贾问曰：“与其媚于奥，宁媚于灶，何谓也？”子曰：“不然。获罪于天，无所祷也。”

 

飜譯 by sjc;

王孫賈가 물었다。’屋神에게 阿諂하기 보다 부뚜막神에게 차라리 阿諂하라’라는 말은 무슨 뜻입니까?

子曰。(그 말은) 틀렸다。하늘 아래에서 罪를 지으면 祈禱할 곳이 없다.

 

英譯;

Wang-Sun Chia asked Confucius, “What is meant by ‘Rather flatter the god of the kitchen than the god of the main chamber’?” Confucius said, “It is not be so. Having offended heaven, there would be nowhere to pray.”
