論語: 里仁 04-02

 

子曰。不仁者。不可以久處約。不可以長處樂。仁者安仁。知者利仁。

자왈. 불인자. 불가이구처약. 불가이장처락. 인자안인. 지자이인.

子曰：“不仁者不可以久处约，不可以长处乐。仁者安仁，知者利仁。”

 

飜譯 by sjc;

子曰。仁慈하지 않은 사람은 窮乏한 곳에서 오래 生活할 수 없으며 (또한) 즐거움이 있는 곳에서도 오래 生活할 수 없다. 仁者는 仁(自體)에 滿足하지만 知者는 仁을 ‘占有한다 (or 利用한다)’。

 

英譯;

The Master said, "Those who are without virtue cannot abide long either in a condition of poverty and hardship, or in a condition of enjoyment. The virtuous rest in virtue; the wise desire virtue."
