季氏使閔子騫爲費宰。閔子騫曰。善爲我辭焉。如有復我者。則吾必在汶上矣。

계씨사민자건위비재. 민자건왈. 선위아사언. 여유복아자. 즉오필재문상의.

季氏使闵子骞为费宰，闵子骞曰：“善为我辞焉！如有复我者，则吾必在汶上矣。”

季氏가 閔子騫에게 費邑의 官吏가 되기를 要請하러 사람을 보냈다。閔子騫曰。’저를 爲하여(or 付託드리오니)’ 辭讓함을 (季氏에게) 잘 말해 주시오。저에게 (또 다시 이런 要請을 하러) 오시면 저는 반드시 ‘汶水 강둑에 있을 것이오(or 제가 사는 魯나라를 떠나 齊나라로 갈 것이오)’。

 

英譯;

The chief of the Ji family sent to ask Min Zi Qian to be governor of Fei. Min Zi Qian said, "Decline the offer for me politely. If any one comes again to me with a second invitation, I shall be obliged to go and live on the banks of the Wen."
