論語: 雍也 06-21;

子曰。中人以上。可以語上也。中人以下。不可以語上也。

자왈. 중인이상. 가이어상야. 중인이하. 불가이어상야.

子曰：“中人以上，可以语上也；中人以下，不可以语上也。”

 

飜譯 by sjc;

子曰。中人 以上의 學問的 水準이 있어야만 上位 主題들을 (그들에게) 말할 수 있다。(따라서) 中人 未滿의 學問的 水準이 있으면 上位 主題들을 말할 수 없다。

 

英譯;

The Master said, "To those whose talents are above mediocrity, the highest subjects may be announced. To those who are below mediocrity, the highest subjects may not be announced."
