論語: 里仁 04-01

 

子曰。里仁爲美。擇不處仁。焉得知。

자왈. 이인위미. 택불처인. 언득지.

子曰：“里仁为美，择不处仁，焉得知？”

 

飜譯 by sjc;

子曰。’仁(or 仁者들)’이 있는 곳에 사는 것은 ‘아름답다(or 좋다)’。’仁(or 仁者들)’이 있는 곳에 살지 않기로 選擇한다면 어찌 知慧를 얻으리?

 

英譯;

The Master said, "It is virtuous manners which constitute the excellence of a neighborhood. If a man, in selecting a residence, does not fix on one where such prevails, how can he be wise?"
