[O Holy Night (거룩한 밤)]

이 노래는 포도주 商人兼 詩人인 Placide Cappeau (플라시드 카프, 프랑스人)의 詩 "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians)에 1847년 Adolphe Adam(아돌프 아당, 프랑스人)이 作曲하였습니다. 마태福音 2:9~11 말씀 內容이 아름다운 音樂으로 表現되어 있습니다.“Bis orat qui bene cantat” (“Who sings well prays twice”)라는 말이 있는데 Charlotte Church(1986~now)의 노래를 들으니 정말 實感이 납니다.

오 거룩한 밤, 별들이 밝게 빛나고 있네

It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.

“사랑하옵는(or 親愛하옵는)” 救世主께서 誕生하신 밤이네

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

主님께서 (이 世上에) 오셔서 “우리들이 自身들의 價値를(or 우리들이 얼마나 價値 있는 存在인지를)” 깨달을 때까지,

罪惡과 잘못에 오랫동안 빠져있던 “우리들(or 世上)”은 (主님을) 渴望하고 있었네 

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,

고단한 世上은 恍惚(황홀)한 希望에 기뻐하네

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn,

왜냐하면 저기에서 새롭고 榮光스러운 아침이 밝아오기 때문이네

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices.

무릎을 꿇어라, 오 天使들의 音聲을 들어라

O night divine, O night when Christ was born!

오 神聖한 밤, 오 그리스도님께서 태어나신 밤!

O night divine, O night, O night divine.

오 神聖한 밤, 오 神聖한 밤, 밤!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,

With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.

고요하게 비치는 믿음의 불빛에 이끌려

불타오르는 마음으로써 우리들은 

아기 主님의 搖籃(요람) 곁에 서있네

So, led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,

Here came the wise men from the Orient land.

아름답게 반짝이는 별빛에 이끌려 

그렇게 東方博士 세 사람이 이곳에 왔네

In all our trials born to be our friend.

우리들의 모든 試鍊에서 우리들의 벗이 되시려고 태어나신

王中王이신 임금님께서 微賤(미천)한 “구유(or 여물통)”에 누워계시네

주님께서는 우리들의 必要(or 不足함)를 아시네

주님께서는 우리들을 危險에서 지켜주시네
